1. Customize your iOS Control Center
There is one iPhone trick that saves me time repeatedly – this is the possibility to manage control center. What this means is that, the widgets that you most frequently use, or those that are most important to you can be added to the Control Center so that you can get to them even if your iPhone is locked, all you have to do is swipe down. This is very useful when you wish to get a feature immediately and inexpensively. For me personally, Music Recognition is the most relevant feature – no more Spanish lurch through home screen folders, looking for the application icon before the songs over.
To do this, go to the Settings app and then tap the icon that reads, Control Center. To check the entire available controls move down to More Controls and include any that will be useful.
2. Share whatever on your screen using Siri
The iOS offers superior sharing features especially through the use of Siri. Normally people would use the share button to share items with their contacts, but they can use Siri to share what is on the screen with a contact. It is not a life-changing feature but rather convenient to use when you want to share a piece of information urgently and/or you have no hands to do it. An image or photo can be shared as well as the song that is being played in the Spotify.
For instance, if Siri cannot screen share with you, such as in the Weather app, Siri will take a screenshot and share that. If, for instance, you want to share your screen with a specific contact, you would say “Hey Siri, share this with [Contact’s Name].”
3. Turn your iPhone’s camera into a document scanner
Particularly, in the past, scanning a document that turns physical pages to a digital one could be made possible with a standalone or multifunction peripheral scanner. And indeed as the required clones are perfect carbon copies, this is still the case. Why, you ask, can’t I just transform that line I underlined in my textbook for a quotation in my notes app? Not surprisingly, there is a clean iOS solution, and your iPhone’s camera is also a useful device to digitize on-the-fly text.
First, launch an app that has to have its text scanned, for this let’s say it can be Notes, Messages, or any app that holds a feature to input the text. In the text-entry area, hold your finger for a few seconds then you release your finger. You should now see a scanner icon and a “Scan Text” text on your screen.
4. Enable Face ID when you’re wearing a mask
Face ID is still available when you have a mask or any other obstacle around your face such as a scarf. When you toggle the switch to pay with a mask on for the first time, you will have to retrain Face ID again. One thing that is rather encouraging is that it appears that the feature can be toggled on and off, and you’re not forced to rescan each time. The bad news, however, is that this makes your iPhone somewhat less secure by default because it unlocks with fewer biometric features.
The method of using Face ID with a mask is to do this, launch the Settings app and go to Face ID & Passcode. Input your passcode and under Face ID with a Mask, turn the slider on.
5. Use your flash for notifications
Surely there is no one who has never envied the notification LEDs in Android devices. But you may not be aware that the iPhone contains an under-the-radar accessibility feature that also enables, among other things, a notification light. The LED flash for the iPhone can be configured to flash for notifications or for messaging and other notification. This is actually not so much of a customization but a sort of assistive feature for people with vision problems since you only get to see the change if your phone’s screen is down and in the dark. But it’s still quite useful, particularly when you tend to doze off on silent and thus miss quite a number of notifications.
Access the Setting on iPhone and iPad, scroll down and tap ‘Accessibility’. For that go to settings and look for the toggle switch next to Audio/Visual, then scroll to the bottom and toggle on LED Flash for Alerts.
